Weight Loss Tip #35 – Add Up Your Weight Loss Decisions

In life, we are the sum total of all of the decisions we make.  If we make decision we aren’t happy with, chances are we won’t be happy with the results either.  In his book The Slight Edge, Jeff Olsen talks about how each and every decision we make either moves us toward our goal or away from our goal.  In other words, there are no neutral choices.  We are choosing to be healthy or not.  What choice are you making today?

Weight Loss Tool Belt

From Spark People for January 26th

“Get the right tools.  Sticking to your goals may require some supplies, like good shoes to exercise… Choose the tools which keep you safe (first and foremost) and help to measure your progress.”

Well, everyone knows how I feel about this.  Building a healthy life is just like building a house.  You need the right tools to get the job done the way you want and in the easiest and most efficient manner.  How well stocked is your tool belt?

Having good shoes to exercise is important.  So is a tape measure so you can track your measurements and I am sure most of us have a scale.

More importantly in my mind are the tools of a great attitude, patience, kindness, non judgment, support and a detailed plan.  These are the tools which you will need to make sure you have in your tool belt for the long haul.  We don’t want to just lose weight and be done.  I want to achieve a healthy weight, maintain it the rest of my life and continue to improve my health everyday.  What is your plan?

Do you have everything you need or do you need to pick up a few tools?

Make Time for Weight Loss

From Spark People for January 23rd

“Make yourself a priority.  You do a lot for others, but tend to neglect yourself.  Give yourself the care, attention and love you need.  Your goals are important and you deserve to take time for yourself in each day in order to achieve them.”

Often I had found in the past I’d booked my daily schedule so tight with back to back appointments there was no time for me.  No time to work out, journal, read a personal development book, create a meal plan etc.  We will not be much good to others when we are not taking care of our self.

Sometimes, people struggle with the feeling by doing this they are being selfish.  We have been so conditioned to think of others and not ourselves that reasonable self care feels selfish.  It is not selfish.  Not caring for yourself and being grouchy or tired all the time will have more of a negative impact on the people around you.

What time do you have slotted for you today?

I “AM” a Weight Loss Coach

From Spark People for January 21st

“Share your knowledge.  Could someone else benefit from what you’ve learned so far?  Acting as a mentor can strengthen your own commitment to your goals and inspire others to create positive changes in their own lives.”

When I first became a coach with Team Beachbody, I was very worried I would have no creditability with my customers since I had weight to lose myself.  What I found was quite the opposite.  Because I had struggled with my weight, people knew I understood what they were going through and could relate.

Taking the weight loss journey along with my customers has been great.  On The Healthy Breakfast Club Call, one of the members shared it was great to know “I was one of them.”

If my coaching has inspired you or motivated you in any way, I would welcome a testimonial.  Thanks for your support!

Visualize Your Weight Loss Journey Complete

From Spark People for January 20th

“Visualize.  Sit comfortably, breathing deeply with your eyes closed. Envision yourself reaching that goal.  How has your life changed?  How does it feel to accomplish it?  Picture all the steps you took to reach that point and believe in yourself.”

In September of 2008 we spent a week with our best friends at June Lake in the Eastern Sierras.  It was beautiful and every morning when we woke we would see deer walking by our trailer and the stars at night were amazing.  Nothing like you see here in San Diego, CA.  Loved our trip, but….

I was not at a healthy weight, about 50 pounds heavier than I am right now and was not able to do all of the activities everyone else did.  The one I missed the most was a hike everyone else took on the Ansel Adams Wilderness Trail up a mountain to Parker Lake.  I heard it was breath taking since I would not know personally.

This September, we are spending another week at the same place.  I am down 50 pounds and know I will have lost even more by then and be in better shape from regular exercise.  There is another hike to The Pie Lady (don’t ask me) and I intend on being there every step of the way this time.

Pick something you will do when you are at your healthy weight and imagine every piece of it right now.  Make it real.

Do You Have a Weight Loss Buddy?

From Spark People for January 19th

“Find a goal buddy.  While your support group should still be in place, a person who is striving for the same goal can offer greater support, inspiration and accountability.  They’ll count on you just as much as you count on them.”

All support is great and support from someone walking a very similar path can be life changing. I have just recently created a Exclusive Coaching Group for those with 100 or more pounds to lose.  Part of the program includes a daily accountability buddy for you to connect with.  Sharing our challenges, our successes and our intentions can be the way to success long term.  If you have 100 or more pounds to lose and looking for support check out our new group.

Are you on Track?

From Spark People for January 18th

“On a calendar or spreadsheet, place a big sticker, star or checkmark on every day you met your goals or took positive action steps.  Over time, your calendar will become a visual reminder of your progress towards your long term goal.  It will also remind you the occasional bad day doesn’t have a major effect in the long run.”

If you are anything like me, we tend to beat ourselves up endlessly for any poor decision.  There are 42 opportunities for meals and snacks in a given week.   If we make 2 decisions which are off track and do great the other 40 times; doesn’t it make sense we ought to be focusing on our successes?

Giving ourselves credit for a job well done and creating visual reminders is a great tool to honor the person we are becoming – a healthy normal weight loss person!
